Fathers' Story Week

Fathers' Story WeekThousands of schools, pre-schools and nurseries across the UK are being encouraged to take part in the first ever Fathers' Story Week.

'Fathers' Story Week', launched by the Fatherhood Institute as part of a major campaign to encourage dads and father figures to play a greater role in their children's learning and development. The week, which will run from 14th June up to Fathers Day on 20th June, is designed to involve early years and primary age children and their fathers - with a range of activities from counting and cooking with dad to finding out about their dad's background and upbringing.

Schools and early year's providers will be encouraged to sign up and make use of the resources, which offer guidance on how schools can better engage with dads, ideas for at-home activities for dads and their children as well as ways in which dads can be supported in being more involved in their children's school life.

Rob Williams, Chief Executive of the Fatherhood Institute, said:

“Many fathers, including those who work full-time and may not often do 'the school run', want to be more involved in their children's education. But primary schools, nurseries and pre-schools can find it a challenge to engage with them.

As part of the week, the Fatherhood Institute is teaming up with children's charity Barnardo's to run a 'bring your dad to school day' - which is where children are encouraged to dress up as their dads and bring them into school, and donate £1 to charity. All money raised will go to Barnardo's - for their work supporting some of the most disadvantaged children, young people and families in the UK, and the Fatherhood Institute - the leading centre of research and training on fatherhood who are running Fathers' Story Week.
