X Factor hopeful Alan Turner sobbed as he told the true story of his traumatic childhood. The 23-year-old singer revealed both parents abandoned him by the age of four and he was abused as a child by a family friend.

Alan fought back tears as he told how dad Alan snr walked out on his mum Debbie Liles when he was 18 months old after finding her in bed with another woman. Three years later she handed her son over to the foster mum who raised her - because she could not cope with the abuse he had suffered at the hands of a friend.

Alan, from Barnsley, said: "When I was four my mum went out for the night and left me with a gay male friend who sexually abused me. Now I'm older I feel that could be one of the reasons she felt she was not capable of looking after me.

"I haven't seen my dad since I was in my teens and that meeting lasted just a few minutes.

"But I have never called him dad and won't call him dad to this day."

Alan has been branded a liar for claiming on Saturday's show that he did not know his parents. But he has apologised to producers - insisting he was trying to explain that he would like to know them better. He said of the row over the section of the show that told his story: "It wasn't a true reflection of my life. I felt like a lot of the points were glossed over.
