Dads on the ball for the Big Kick – as reported in the Sunday Sun, the big match for thousands of fathers and their children has kicked off. The Big Kick was backed by Relate, Dadtalk.co.uk, ParentlinePlus, Contact a Family, Young Minds and Netmums.

A study carried for the charities said more than half of all children wish they could spend more time with their dads. It says research shows that three quarters of fathers spend less than two hours of quality time a day with their children.

The new study of 1500 dads and 500 children — carried out by a group of fathering and parenting experts — found a lack of confidence among men.

• Figures showed that 52% believed they were second best to the mother.
• Despite their fathers’ worries, 55% of children surveyed said they wanted to spend more time with their dad.
• And 39% said they preferred time with him to playing on the computer or with a friend.
