"Character building is as important as academic achievement. Children should be valued for who they are, not for how they measure up."

Do you believe this is true or is academic achievement more important for your child’s future?

I didn't get A levels, i didn't go to Uni - some folk look down on me for that - but i don't care, there are more people who look up to me for my character, loyal friendship and ability to lead. Character is much more important and should be valued more highly.

I have mates who are sending their kids to school outside of the areas they live coz they want them to have a good start in life... WHAT IS THAT ABOUT. My oldest is 1 of only 2 english speakers, as a first language, in his pre school, coz friends don't want their kids to be in the minority, if our friends send there kids there they wouldn't be. People need to get over themselves and realize charatcter, friendships and community are what really count in life.

Yes of course character is the more important thing. We should all want our kids to find out who they really are and encourage them to be that to the best of their ability. For some kids that will mean acedemic achievement, for others, sporting excellence, etc.

Let's not put academic on a pedestal as the only worthwhile goal, but let's not condemn it either. It is possible to be a high achiever and a great person at the same time!
