Do you know Britain's Kindest Kid?

Britains_Kindest_KidFIVE NEWS and the Charities Aid Foundation have begun the search for “Britain’s Kindest Kid” 2010. The national tv competition, now in its third year, recognises the extraordinary achivements of kids who have shown real kindness or given up their time for a good cause to help others.

The stories of the five finalists will be shown on Five News in November and viewers will decide the winner to be announced in December. The winner will receive £1,000 prize money, £1,000 in Charities Aid Foundation vouchers to give to their favourite charities and a behind the scenes tour of FIVE NEWS.

Last year’s competition was won by nine year old Harry Moseley, who suffers from an inoperable brain tumour. Harry who raised £10,000 for Brain Tumour UK by making and selling beaded bracelets in 30 shops across the Midlands.

Natasha Kaplinsky said: “As a mum, I know just how kind kids can be - and how important it is to recognise that generosity. ‘Britain’s Kindest Kid’ takes inspirational children who do amazing work and proudly puts them in the headlines.”

And joining the judging panel this year is fellow Five News presenter Matt Barbet: “If you’re one of those kids I think you deserve to have your story told. We’d love you to enter this competition so we can show everyone what you do for others.”

John Low, Chief Executive of the Charities Aid Foundation, said: “Britain’s Kindest Kid recognises the amazing acheivements of children and young people across the UK and the remarkable difference they make, improving the lives of others around them and breaking down common misconceptions about the selfishness of young people today. I urge all those who are doing something fantastic to help a charity, their community or even their family, or know of someone who derserves to be Britain’s Kindest Kid, to submit an application.”

A panel of expert judges will agree a shortlist of five candidates whose stories will be shown on FIVE NEWS. The panel of judges includes Natasha Kaplinsky and Matt Barbet, presenters of FIVE NEWS; Diane Louise Jordan, Ambassador for Action for Children; Camila Batmanghelidjh, Founder of Kids Company and John Low, Chief Executive of the Charities Aid Foundation;.

Diane Louise Jordan, Ambassador Action for Children said: “It’s an honour to be invited to be one of the judges in this year’s Britain’s Kindest Kid competition. In my role as an Ambassador for Action for Children, I am aware of the incredible courage of so many children and I’m delighted to see these young people’s generosity being recognised through the Britain’s Kindest Kid awards.”

Camila Batmanghelidjh, founder and director of Kids Company, said: “Kindness is a precious present to give and to receive.”
