New research released today reveals British Dads don't feel as confident.
New research released today reveals British Dads don't feel as confident (48%) or appreciated (43%) as Mums, denting children's self-esteem.
The research also reveals that 8 out of 10 dads agree there isn't enough information and support available for them, with 1 in 2 dads claiming they don't feel as confident as their partner or wife - particularly when it came to opening up and talking one-to-one with their children (41%). This may be a result of their relationship with their own father, as 1 in 2 dads said that their own father didn't talk to them enough.
LONG NIGHTS IN THE OFFICE FOR DADDY
A significant number of dads agreed they should spend more time with their children (57%) but are unable to because of the length of their working day. Almost 60% said they got home too late during the week, a trend that was more prominent among office workers (69%) than those working in manual labour (40%) or who do shift-work (44%).
DADS NEED MORE SUPPORT
Whilst the lack of available support for dads is a clear issue, the research suggests that dads could benefit from more peer support, as an overwhelming 85% said they don't talk or share issues about their children with other fathers.
MUMS THE WORD
The research also revealed that 26% of dads said their partner or wife took most of the parental responsibility, however over two-thirds (68%) said if they spent less time at work, they would be more actively involved with their child's upbringing. Some of the top activities dads would like to do more with their children include:
- 46% would play their favourite sports with them
- 39% would do more after school activities
- 40% would read them their favourite story at bedtime
