Back You are here: DadTalk Euan I have a confession.

I have a confession.

I have a confession.......I work for a church in Manchester, that isn’t my confession but it puts my confession in context.

Here is my confession – I moved my daughter’s birthday by one day.

There I said it. It is like a weight off the mind. Now let me explain myself.

I work for a church and so Sundays can be a little bit crazy. They involve a number of meetings and I spend most of my time frantically making sure a whole bunch of things are happening at the same time. I have a meeting in the morning, which I set up, and help run, and then we come home for the afternoon. After a few hours I get a PA out my garage, load it into my car and head off to our evening meeting to set up and run. It is not the hardest job in the world and I certainly wouldn’t swap it, however it can leave me a little pre-occupied on a Sunday.

We realised that out eldest daughter’s birthday fell on a Sunday and we realised that this meant she would not really get any quality Dad time at all on her Birthday.

So we moved her Birthday forward a day to Saturday. We didn’t tell her either.

This was the first birthday that Abi had really been aware of and she had been counting the days with genuine excitement so I did not want to mess it up for her.

We told a few people what we had done and some people were genuinely shocked that we had done this.  However, to us it seemed perfectly logical. We could only do it this year when her birthday fell on a Sunday and in the future when Vicki is on shift or when I am working another day we wont be able to move her birthday back or forward to the nearest Saturday.

It was a sentimental decision. Anyone done anything similar?
