Step It Up Home Boy!

I can’t remember when it began, but Harvey, 5, is obsessed with street dancing. He would watch the dance scene from Step Up 3 on loop all day if allowed.  Yes Gents I have had to sit though all 3 in the name of romantic evenings with the Mrs.

Harvey is transfixed by the moves, the twists, the pops, the body spins. He watches and copies with such enthusiasm it’s just too cute. He has been desperate to go to lessons for ages but the only ones we could find locally weren’t really local and cost more than we could afford. (I do work in the 3^rd Sector after all!) But this Saturday whilst walking into town we saw them, Harvey’s New Crew!

A group of about 20 kids and 6 adult teachers were putting on a display right in the middle of town. The reaction from Harvey was almost instantaneous and I think if I wasn’t holding his hand he would have walked straight up and joined in. In his head it would have been his crowning break dancing moment when the world discovered his breathtaking talent. In mine it would have been more like the rolling of a bowling ball down a ten pin alley.

Whilst H and J watched these kids try to body pop and “shake their little tail feathers” I checked out the schools leaflet for cost and venue. Local – Tick, Price - £2.15 for 2 hours, first session FREE ... ch-ching .

Next Saturday will see Harvey’s first steps towards street dance stardom, by attending his first 2 hour session at a local community centre. He is adamant that he will learn to head spin in his first lesson – Ummm where’s that article on helping kids deal with disappointment!
