Call Me Mr Mum

At 02:00 hrs last Thursday morning my wife left home to go to Turkey for 5 days. Why she is going is too confusing to go into but what it means is that until 23:30 this coming Wed I am both Mum and Dad.
Things have been going ok and I am feeling in control so far. My worst fear was that the boys, esp Harvey would struggle with mum being gone especially as to date the longest she has been away is 2 days (1night). However when it came to bedtime last wed it was Jasper that struggled to say goodbye and he didn’t settle down and sleep for about an hour. Oh no I though this is not going to be an easy 6 days. But when the boys woke up all was well and Thursday and Friday passed without any trauma.
I knew Saturday was going to be a bit of an issue as I had already booked into a training course prior to Philbe’s Turkey trip being on the cards and was really worried that the boys would struggle with me being away for the whole day too. Our friend Sarah stepped up to have the boys for the day and she was a star. When I got home at 6.30pm they had been to the cheap morning cinema to see Kung Foo Panda 2, had McD’s for lunch, bought magazines and played their socks off. I came home to 2 totally knackered and spoilt boys. I must admit though I felt totally guilty about going away for the day and if I could have cancelled the training I would’ve, so I total appreciate Sarah for stepping up and being amazing. Saturday evening was a lads night, we camped out in the lounge watched films (totally love the new Phineas and Ferb in the 2nd Dimension movie) till we fell asleep. Yes it meant a bit of a late one but we slept in late and loved every memory making minute.
Sunday we stayed in our PJ’s all day and chillaxed, “we” being the boys - as my to do list looked a bit like this:
- Clean bathroom
- Wash laundry
- Iron School uniforms
- Cook lunch
- Hoover
- Tidy Jasper’s room
- Phone Grandma
- Write 2 essays for course I’m currently on.
- Bath boys
- Make Mondays packed lunches
- Flop into bed!
If the truth be told I do feel like I’m treading water right now and yes I have a whole new appreciation for all you single parent dads! I totally dedicate today to all you amazing fellows who live like this 24/7.
